In July, a new feature called Copilot Memory was introduced on the official Microsoft 365 Copilot blog. Thanks to this feature, Copilot can better reflect context and provide more relevant outputs.
Microsoft's AI assistant can now remember your writing style, communication preferences, and the projects you are working on. It then uses this information in subsequent interactions. You have full control over its memory and can edit, expand, or completely delete it at any time. How to use this new feature?
Tip: We recommend using Copilot only under your university account (via single sign-on) so that you are covered by the institutional license protecting your data.
Tell Copilot directly what to remember: “Remember that [...]” or “[...] Please remember this information.” Copilot only stores intentional instructions. If you are logged in, you will see three dots in the upper right corner. Click on them, select Settings, and in the Copilot Memory section, you will see an overview of all the information the tool has collected about you.
If you are logged in, you will see three dots in the upper right corner. Click on them, select Settings, and in the Custom Instructions section, you can formulate the information that Copilot should store in its memory. You can also tell it how you want it to communicate with you and how it should formulate its answers – in bullet points, in continuous text, without emoticons, etc.
