Open publishing without fees, now also with Elsevier

28 Jan 2026

A transformation agreement between the CzechELib consortium and Elsevier has been in effect since January 1, 2026. It allows authors from MU to publish articles in open access without paying APCs, through the allocation of tokens.

 What are transformative agreements?

This scheme is offered by several publishers (Springer, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, and others). The number of tokens is limited annually, as are the titles for which they can be used. These are usually hybrid journals (journals that are not fully open access). The university pays for access to the journal, and therefore (in limited quantities) the fees for opening our authors' works are waived. We will be happy to help you check that the conditions are met.

Conditions for Elsevier

The number of tokens that MU will have available for Elsevier and the exact list of journals are not yet known. However, it is already possible to apply for tokens if the publication meets the terms of use. More detailed information on open access publishing with Elsevier, along with instructions, is available on the CzechElib website.
